Lagoon 450F: A Comprehensive Overview

The Lagoon 450F is a sailing catamaran renowned for its balance of performance, comfort, and functionality. Designed by the celebrated naval architects Marc Van Peteghem and Vincent Lauriot-Prévost (VPLP) in collaboration with the Lagoon design team, the Lagoon 450F seamlessly combines luxurious accommodations with efficient sailing capabilities. As a successor to the Lagoon 440, the 450F builds on its predecessor’s strengths while incorporating innovations that set a new standard in cruising catamarans.

Exterior Design and Layout

The “F” in Lagoon 450F stands for Flybridge, a key feature that distinguishes it from the “S” (Sportop) version. The flybridge is a standout aspect of the boat, offering an elevated helm station and panoramic views, making navigation effortless and enjoyable. The area also includes comfortable seating, allowing guests to enjoy the sights alongside the skipper. The helm station is well-equipped with all necessary controls and instruments, ensuring easy maneuverability even with a small crew.

The Lagoon 450F features a sleek and modern design, with streamlined hulls that enhance both performance and aesthetics. The spacious forward deck includes trampolines and a cozy seating area, perfect for relaxing while underway or at anchor. The aft cockpit is shaded and offers ample seating, a dining area, and a direct connection to the salon, creating a harmonious indoor-outdoor flow. Additionally, wide side decks with sturdy handrails make it safe and convenient to move around the boat.

Interior Comfort

Stepping inside, the Lagoon 450F boasts a well-lit and spacious interior, thanks to large vertical windows that provide 360-degree views and excellent natural light. Nauta Design has masterfully crafted the interior to feel both modern and inviting, using high-quality materials and finishes.

The catamaran is available in two main configurations: a three-cabin (owner’s version) or four-cabin layout, catering to both private owners and charter operators. The owner’s version dedicates an entire hull to a luxurious master suite, featuring a king-size bed, ample storage, a private desk, and an en-suite bathroom with a separate shower. In the four-cabin layout, each cabin is generously sized, with queen-size beds, en-suite bathrooms, and ample ventilation through opening hatches and portholes.

The salon is the central hub of the interior, equipped with a U-shaped seating area and a dining table that can accommodate a large group. The adjacent galley is compact yet highly functional, equipped with a three-burner stove, oven, refrigerator, and optional upgrades like a microwave or additional refrigeration. This layout ensures that meal preparation is both convenient and social.

Sailing Performance

The Lagoon 450F is not just about luxury—it also delivers commendable sailing performance. With a sail area of approximately 129 m² (1,389 sq ft), the catamaran is designed for efficiency and stability, even in challenging conditions. The twin hulls and wide beam provide excellent balance, reducing heeling and motion, making it a comfortable platform for long passages.

The Lagoon 450F features a self-tacking jib and an electric winch at the helm station, making it easy to handle for a shorthanded crew. Twin Yanmar engines, typically rated at 45 horsepower each, provide reliable auxiliary power for motoring, with excellent fuel efficiency. The boat’s design ensures minimal resistance through the water, enhancing both speed and fuel economy.

Additional Features

  • Energy Efficiency: Solar panels and advanced battery systems can be added, making the Lagoon 450F ideal for off-the-grid cruising.
  • Storage: Ample storage options in both the interior and exterior spaces accommodate everything from provisions to water toys.
  • Safety: High freeboards, sturdy construction, and advanced navigation systems contribute to the Lagoon 450F’s reputation as a safe and reliable vessel.

Conclusion

The Lagoon 450F stands out as an exceptional choice for sailors seeking a versatile and luxurious catamaran. Its blend of comfort, space, and sailing performance makes it equally suited for family cruising, entertaining guests, or chartering in exotic destinations. Whether you’re embarking on a weekend getaway or an extended bluewater adventure, the Lagoon 450F offers a safe, stylish, and enjoyable platform to explore the seas.

  • Alles war wie auch geplant Bis zum Schluss gut abgelaufen. Alles im ganzen war in Ordnung

  • Excellent

  • I chartered MarMar with my two sons, plus one of their friends (23, 25, 30 yr olds, me at 66yrs) and a skipper recommended by owner Mr. George. While I have 30 years of offshore sailing experience, a large catamaran in Med-style mooring in the Aegean was new to me. Mr. Simiriotis is a meticulous operator, looking after the technical details of the vessel both for sailing – nearshore as well as the creature comforts of a living environment. The boat was sparkling clean and operated flawlessly in all conditions. We did have 23-25knots abeam (that had been blowing for a couple of days) so the passages had 1m waves.
The Alimos marina has a great restaurant, but the common WC/shower facilities do require better cleaning and care! The local area of Kalamaki is full of restaurants, cafes, bars, etc which my boys enjoyed.
Needless to say our trip down the Saronic past Sounio to Kea, Siros, Rhemini, Mykonos (2 nights), Kythnos, Poros, Aegina, and back to Alimos in 6 days will remain memorable. The skipper Mr. Kostas M. was also superb in his skills for the boat as well as local knowledge.
